ENNEREG- Regions paving the way for a Sustainable Energy Europe

The ENNEREG project coordinated by Energy Consulting Network was launched in June 2010. It represents 12 regional partnerships committed to serve as pioneers demonstrating how regions of all types and sizes can be a key driving force in fulfilling the European 20-20-20 goal. The project is supported by EU Intelligent Energy Europe.

ENNEREG entails three main dimensions:

The first dimension concerns the 12 regional partnerships (ENNEREG Regions) making a  coordinated approach in defining visions and goals suited to the local policy context, the region’s  resources and the interests of stakeholders. This will lead to a Sustainable Energy Action Plan (SEAP) for each region to serve as a framework for the implementation process.

The second dimension is to encourage regions beyond the consortium to take up the sustainable energy challenge, thereby adding value by multiplying the impact of the ENNEREG project. This objective will be pursued in the form a Replication Programme, where each of the ENNEREG Regions twin with a new region to adopt the relevant project achievements in the new region.

The third dimension is to create an enabling environment, EU Regions 202020, for broader debate on how regions can help meet EU targets in the field of local and regional Sustainable Energy Action, via a multi-pronged approach.

European Energy Citizens Cup - European Energy Campaign on energy savings in households

The “European Citizens Climate Cup” (ECCC) is a competition of private households within and between 10 EU countries. It aims to demonstrate that everybody can save energy significantly and even beat the reduction targets of the European Union and its member states.

The overall campaign is supported by the EU Intelligent Energy Europe Programme. Energy Consulting Network is responsible for the campaign in Denmark.

Due to the campaign households will be aware and informed about their personal impact and their possibilities to fight climate change. Households will get involved directly by applying for an Energy Savings Account and by entering consumption and cost data continuously providing a large€ data stock of energy consumption of households.

By competing in a sports-like championship, ESA holders form national teams to fight climate change and to achieve the highest CO2 reduction in the contest. The ECCC winner team and additionally the Energy Savers of the Year, the household with the highest and the most convincing energy saving measures of every partner country/region will be decorated in a glamorous final award ceremony in Brussels.

These effects become measurable in absolute as well as relative figures of CO2, kilowatt hours and Euro by monitoring aggregated data of national account holder teams. In addition, the ESA offers a web-based environment for an international social community to communicate and demonstrate best practice.

The project was launched in May 2010 and the campaign is planned to start in January 2011.

SETatWork - Preparing for COP15 intervention

As part of the SETatWork project a stand has been booked at the Bright Green exhibition, www.brightgreen.dk. Bright Green is organised by the Confederation of Danish Industry and takes place in Copenhagen, 12-13 December 2009, in connection with the climate conference COP15. The aim of the SETatWork intervention at Bright Green is to establish contacts between actors on the carbon markets. The project partners have started preparing for this.

The SETatWork project as such has reached its mid-term stage under coordination of Energy Consulting Network. The core activities so far has been to examine the needs of companies under the European Emission Trading Scheme (ETS) in terms of CO2 handling as well as identifying CDM project opportunities at CDM markets in Asia, Africa and Latin America of interest for EU stakeholders.

USE EFFICIENCY- New Intelligent Energy Europe project on energy education in universities

Energy Consulting Network is involved as a partner in the USE EFFICIENCY Project financed by the EU IEE Programme. USE Efficiency intends to create a common stream for energy efficiency systems in university buildings. Universities and students are proposed as shining examples both for energy efficiency solutions and for energy efficiency behaviour.

The Project is coordinated by the Technical University of Rome and involves 10 EU countries (9 Universities and 4 market players). It aims at improving energy efficiency in university buildings and establishing training programs for students. Students are the main actors of the project, learning about energy efficiency, working and interacting together with professors and technicians.

To act on students means to act on direct future market players in diffusion of public opinions. The wide geographical and climatic coverage allows an important crossover of methodologies even to a professional and technological level.

A strong communication action is an important key issue and involves national media, such as TV radio and publisher, student associations and national professional institutions.

ClearSupport - 172 energy efficiency projects supported by Project Service Facilities

At the beginning of July 2009 the five Project Service Facilities operating In Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic and Crete under the Clear Support Project were supporting 172 projects in total. 10 projects were already implemented and financing applications were submitted for 79 other projects of which 42 were already approved.

Thus, 89 projects of the 172 projects were at an advanced stage (52%).

The projects are mainly related to the residential (47%) and public sector (46%) and to a minor extent to the private sector (7%). As to Latvia and Lithuania most projects are supported in the residential sector while in Poland and Czech Republic the major focus is on the public sector. In Crete mainly projects within the private sector is supported, and comprises energy renovation projects in hotels.

The projects in Czech Republic are carried out as ESCO projects, and mainly in schools. The ESCO market is well-developed in Czech Republic as to public buildings but needs further development in the other countries as well as within the residential sector in general.

The ClearSupport Project aims at accelerating the renovation of buildings from an energy saving perspective in targeted European regions: Latvia, Lithuania, Poland (Pomorski region), Czech Republicand Crete. The project started 1 January 2007 and will run until the end of 2009 involving thirteen partners with Energy Consulting Network as Co-ordinator.
